The Basics: A Toolkit for Writing Fiction, with Kate Heartfield.

This class is an overview of fundamental concepts, illustrated through simple, joyful exercises, each focused on an aspect of writing. Whether you’re a brand new writer or an experienced pro looking for a creative jolt, this workshop is for you.

Kate Heartfield is the author of two interactive novels for Choice of Games, The Road to Canterbury and The Magician’s Workshop, both of which were shortlisted for the Nebula award in the game writing category. Her debut novel Armed in Her Fashion won the Aurora Award for Best Novel and was shortlisted for the Locus First Novel, Crawford and Sunburst awards. Her two Alice Payne time travel novellas were shortlisted for the Nebula and Aurora awards.

Principles for Pantsers, with Cat Rambo

This class outlines ten principles that writers who rely on the pantsing process can use to make that process more effective and rewarding and tells you how to apply those principle before, during, and after the drafting process.

Some people outline. Others don’t. There’s plenty of advice on how to do the former, but those who practice the latter sometimes feel that they’re floundering, and no one’s providing any principles. Working with my own process as well as those of students, I’ve come up with ten principles that you can apply pre, during and post-pantsing, in order to move from chaos to order.
